The California Lasik Process

Okay, so maybe it’s stereotypical to say the only reason you want to undergo a California lasik surgery is because it will make surfing easier.  All of California may not be a beach, but there are still some very good reasons for wanting to do away with glasses and contacts regardless of your location.  Unless you have already done all your homework and know this type of surgery is for you, you do have some work ahead of you.  Even as effective and safe as lasik surgery is considered to be, you still should have some idea of how things work before you undergo the laser.

Lasik surgery is best thought of as three distinct sections.  Before the surgery can be done, you have to find a surgeon you trust, make sure your eyes can handle the procedure, and have the proper tests and exams.  Your lasik surgeon is going to want to use a corneal topographer to map the surface of your eyes.  He or she isn’t going to be able to correct your vision if the exact measurements aren’t known.  The process is painless and doesn’t take very long.  Wavefront analysis is also being used to create an even more in depth map of your eyes and impediments to perfect vision.

It’s understandable to be concerned with pain especially after you find out you stay awake through the entire process.  It is sure to be a relief for you to know that there is no pain involved with the lasik procedure.  Drops containing medication to numb the eyes is administered and your lasik surgeon will make a flap in the cornea of your eye, peel the membrane back temporarily, and use lasers to correct your vision.  The corneal flap is put back in place to act as a natural bandage and you are pretty much through.  The entire surgery for both eyes only takes about 5 minutes to complete.

It’s also understandable to want to know how long after your California lasik surgery you will be down.  After all, you do have places to go and people to see without vision aids.  Most people are doing fine the day after surgery, though it might take a bit longer.  You can expect to spend very little time under in recovery.  From California to Michigan, lasik is making patients’ lives easier and more convenient in a hurry.
